The theme of the 2011 seminar is Mc Gahern and creativity. Dr John Kenny, John Mc Gahern lecturer in NUI Galway says ‘The role of creativity in all areas of innovative thinking is inceasingly recognised.’
The seminar will involve guided visits to John McGahern’s homeplaces in Aughawillian, Mohill and Ballinamore. Just up the street from Hamills B&B is Pat Mc’s garage and Maggies shop. John described his aunt’s shop beside the railway station and opposite his uncle’s garage. A grantie seat is located in the square with the inscription ‘that they may face the rising sun’.
