The 28th Annual Ballinamore Drama Festival took place March 6th to March 15th 2009 with a wonderful weeks entertainment : see full programme below.

Sat 7th March | Ardagh Drama Limerick | The Quiet Moment by Mike Finn | Confined | Peter arrives home from the US to visit his elderly father who has Alzheimers disease and is now resident in a nursing home. Relationships between father and son, brother and sister are explored. Unresolved issues from the past arise leading to emotional experiences for all involved. |
Sun 8th March | Lifford Players | The Black Stranger by Gerard Healy | Open | Set in the famine times the play depicts the harrowing experiences of the time, Knoyh, the McCarthy and Corcorna families |
Mon 9th March | Sillan Comm Players Shercock | Carthaginians by Frank McGuinness | Confined | Black comedy set in Creggan Graveyard in Derry in the early 70s in the aftermath of Bloody Sunday. 7 diverse people lay bare their tragic pasts. |

Wed 11th March | Puddle Alley Strabane Tyrone | Caught in the Net by Ray Cooney | Confined | Sequel to “Run for your wife” a bigamist, taxi driver John Smith juggles his hectic schedule. Now his grown up children (one by each wife) have contact each other using the internet and romance is in the air! John gets Stanley’s help to stop this disaster happening |
Thurs 12th March | Carrigallen | Kevin’s Bed by Bernard Farrell | Open | Kevin’s Bed is a play of nostalgia, expectations and broken dreams. Set in the golden wedding celebrations of Dan and Doris- a time for them to return to their old house, join in thir celebrations, contemplate a life in disarray and remember the joy of their silver anniversary – the Sonny and Cher days, the optimism and the expectations they had for their son, John and Kevin. |
Fri 13th March | Breffni Players | Butterflies are Free by Leonard Gershe | Open | Set in New York in the 70s this play is about the trials and tribulations of young love having to overcome older influences. |
Sat 14th March | Estuary | The Last days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis | Open | The Last Days of Judas Iscariot tells the story of Judas while in purgatory litigates with his lawyers for the entry into heaven. The play uses flashbacks to an imagined childhood, and lawyers who call for the testimonies of such witnesses as Mother Teresa, Caiaphas, Sigmund Freud and Satan. |
Sun 15th March | Droichead Nua | The Lonesome West by Martin McDonagh | Confined | Valene & Coleman 2 brothers living alone in their fathers house after his recent death, find it impossible to exist without the most massive and violent disputes over the most mundane and innocent of topics. Only Fr Welsh is prepared to try to reconcile the two before their petty squabblings spiral into vicious and bloody carnage. |
